Ground Chicken Sloppy Joes


  • 2 tsp garlic, minced
  • 3 Tb vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 2 Tb Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pound (16 oz.) Isernio’s Ground Chicken
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 2 Tb Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Liquid Smoke
  • 1 Tb chili powder
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 Tb apple cider vinegar
  • Buns, for serving.


  1. Stove Top: Dutch heat large oven over medium heat and add the vegetable oil.
  2. Add the onion and cook, stirring sometimes till clear, concerning five minutes.
  3. Add the bell peppers and garlic. Stir for 1 minute. Add the ground chicken and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon into crumbles. Cook for another 3 minutes, stirring occasionally until the chicken loses its pinkness.
  4. Add the carrots, mustard, Worcestershire, liquid smoke, chili powder, and paprika to the mixture. Stir for about 30 seconds and then add tomato sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, and salt & pepper.
  5. Cook for about 5 more minutes, allowing ingredients to combine well. Can be served immediately, or for better flavor, turn down the heat and let the mixture mix on low for up to 1 hour. Serve on buns.
  6. Slow Cooker Method: Cook the onions, peppers, garlic and ground chicken on the stovetop per steps 1-2 above. Add the meat mixture and the remaining ingredients to a crockpot, stirring to combine. Place the lid on and cook for 4-6 hours on low, or 2-3 hours on high. Serve on buns.
  7. Instant Pot Method: Turn the Instant Pot and Saute on Oil and Oil, following steps 1-3 as stated above.
  8. Once the mixture is all combined, the lid on instant pot and set to manual high pressure for 15 minutes. Allow to naturally release for 5 minutes, then release the remaining pressure and remove the lid. Serve on buns.
